Naturopathic medicine is a system of health care that addresses the root cause of illness or disease and promotes health using natural therapies. Treatment options may include: nutrition, herbal medicine, homeopathy, physical medicine, Asian medicine (including acupuncture), and lifestyle counselling.
Naturopathic doctors (NDs) are health care providers who integrate standard medical diagnostics with a broad range of natural therapies. NDs have a minimum of 7 years of post-secondary education. They must complete 4 years of naturopathic medical training that includes a 12-month clinical internship. To be licensed, NDs must pass standardized board examinations.
